These are the days of our Lives

It was a wild and wooly day. I was home with the boys who have had a cough for two weeks. Both woke up cranky and coughing this morning, so I decided to go ahead and take them to the doctor.
First, we headed to WaImart. I could write an entire post on the "joys" of taking children to Walmart. Well, Eli was crying when we got out of the car and NEVER stopped. Jake was rambunctious and wanting to walk (very slowly) right in front of the cart. Which- in turn- led to my running into his heels. Which - in turn- led to a total meltdown. Which- in turn- spurred a simultaneous meltdown by Eli. Nice. I might or might not have yelled at him in front of half of the city of Cabot. Not a proud moment.

I decided to give up and check out. Jake begged for a sucker at checkout and in the spirit of trying to turn this foul mood day around, I allowed him to have one. When we got to the car, he asked me to open it. I obliged, only to have it literally bust all over me. Which, I learned today that sucker sticks to everything - even when it isn't wet. So, now, covered in blue sucker, I rushed home to unload groceries and get to the doctor.

Soooo, we listen to Eli cry all the way to the doctor... Yes, he is still crying. We were called back quickly ( Thank the good Lord), but not before my children cover the waiting room in muffin crumbs. Our WONDERFUL doctor was quick and patient with my quickly deteriorating boys.

But, like all moms, I was hopeful. Because, after all, naptime awaited at home. Both kids took 3 hour naps. It bears repeating- both boys took three hour naps. It was heavenly.

The rest of the day was full of boo boos, laughter, chikfila and bath time. I wrote this post, so that -in twenty years- I will remember these days. These long days of crying, fighting, messes and frustration. And that at the end of the day, I looked at these beautiful kids and knew that God gave THEM to me. They are all mine- hissy fits and all.

Right before bath, Greg spent some time teaching Jake to hit a baseball. I sat and watched and just enjoyed the quiet evening with the three boys God knew I needed! It was a wild and wooly day, but motherhood isn't for sissies! :)

Birthday week!

Jake has been counting down the days until his birthday- literally.

We started the celebration earlier this week with a trip to Magic Springs! Today- we surprised him with his name on the sign at Sonic. It's the little things, folks! This kid was PUMPED to recognize his name on the sign this morning!

A Day Off with Jake

Typically, I am off on Tuesday and Thursday with Eli. But, I decided to take Eli to school on Tuesday and take Jake to Magic Springs! Our cousin, April, brought Jack- her 7 year old.

Jake and Jack had a great time! We left quickly after about 3 and 1/2 hours, because of a thunderstorm, but it was plenty of time to master "the big slide" and jump some waves in the wave pool.

Sisters are for Life

In May, a dear friend's sister-in-law had a massive stroke. Ellie is a 29 years old, beautiful young woman. Healthy. Happy. Successful. No one knows why this happened or what to expect. By the grace of God, Ellie has made miraculous steps in recovery. She continues to fight the good fight.

Ellie is a sorority sister of mine from ASU. We were- are- both Alpha Gamma Deltas. A few fellow AGDs put together a 5K for Ellie. What started out as three young ladies rallying our sisters around Ellie turned into 600+ registered runners, $40,000 and an entire small town -my hometown- cheering Ellie on! Wow! In four years of college- with pep rallies, intramural sports, homecoming events--I was never close to this proud of my sorority!

Along with the race, I was also able to spend some quality time with some of my dearest friends! We took our kids to a Memphis Redbirds game and just enjoyed being with each other. I don't see these ladies much, but when I do we pick up right where we left off!

We rushed back to Cabot Saturday afternoon for a going away party for The Theisings. Erika Theising moved to Arkansas four years ago with the military. Her and her husband, Frank, grew from their family of barely three to a family of five while they were here. Erika and I have shared laughter and tears over the past four years. From the joy of having a baby, to the emotional exhaustion of a newborn, to potty training, sibling fighting, studying God's Word and just being a young mom. She has been a sister to me in many ways. She and Frank are moving to Alabama this week and will be missed dearly. I will secretly pray God brings our paths back together some day! :)

We wrapped up the weekend the way many suburban families do... Backyard birthday party, complete with a blow up slide and water balloons.

It's been a WILD weekend, but one that reminds me that we have been abundantly blessed with friendships that last a lifetime.
